Healing Through Meals: A Blog for Emotional Wellness

Welcome to My Old Sebastian’s Table

I created My Old Sebastian’s Table as a gentle place for people who feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, numb, disconnected, or far away from themselves.

My work is inspired by my own experience of living with complex trauma and trying to understand what safety, comfort, and reconnection can look like in everyday life. I know how difficult it can be to organize your thoughts when your nervous system feels overloaded and how lonely it can feel when you need support but do not have the words or energy to explain what is happening inside you.

This space is for those moments.

Here, emotional support does not begin with pressure to improve, perform, or “fix” yourself. It begins with something softer: a comforting meal, a quiet ritual, a page to write on, a moment with an animal, or one small choice that helps you feel present again.

Where Food and Feeling Meet

I was born in Taiwan and raised in a family where meals were a language, a ritual, and an expression of care. Food has always been one of the ways I understand love, memory, culture, and belonging.

Even now, far from the familiar, the kitchen remains one of the places where I feel most grounded. It is where memory and mess coexist, where creativity has room to breathe, and where a handful of this, a pinch of that, and a forgotten container in the refrigerator can somehow become dinner.

Everyone’s favorite place is this kitchen corner

Today, I share my home—and most of my snacks—with Mr. J, my well-meaning partner and enthusiastic taste-tester, and Stevie, our fur-coated household supervisor and professional napper. Their presence continues to shape this space, which is built around the belief that comfort can be simple, imperfect, and deeply meaningful.

I am not a chef, and I rarely cook with perfect measurements. I cook by feeling, imagination, and instinct. But what I love most about food is not perfection. It is the way it brings people together.

The Heart Behind My Old Sebastian’s Table

My Old Sebastian’s Table was created in memory of a deeply loved old dog.

Sebastian represented the kind of presence many of us long for: quiet companionship, unconditional acceptance, and the feeling of being loved without needing to explain ourselves.

Animals have always reminded me to slow down and return to what is happening right now. They do not require polished words or perfect emotional regulation. They simply meet us where we are.

My Old Sebastian began as a food blog, but over time, I realized I wanted it to hold something deeper.

I wanted to create the kind of place I had often needed myself—a place that felt safe, thoughtful, creative, emotionally validating, and free from judgment. A place for people who may be carrying complex trauma, chronic emotional exhaustion, difficult family histories, or the quiet belief that their needs are somehow too much.

This website is growing into a collection of gentle resources for emotional support and self-reconnection, including printable reflection tools, comfort cards, journaling prompts, soft-reset practices, supportive products, calming routines, and simple food ideas for difficult days.

These resources are not meant to replace professional mental health care. They are created to offer companionship, reflection, comfort, and practical support alongside whatever healing resources are right for you.
